Gustavo Cidade

CEO

Business administrator with an MBA in three distinct areas (UFRJ/COPPE/COPPEAD): Economics, Energy, Oil and Gas Management, and International Relations. Experienced in the public and private sectors, Luiz has expertise in the energy, oil and gas sectors. Between 2010 and 2016, he played relevant roles at Ocyan in the areas of business development and management, both in Brazil and in Africa (General Manager/Business Development Director). He also held the position of Commercial Manager at SBM Offshore (Brazil) and, from 2018 to 2022, he was the Business Development and Contracts General Manager at Altera Infrastructure (Teekay Offshore).

José Cavalcante

Sales Manager

A Chemical Engineer with an executive MBA and proven experience in executive management positions in the marine and oil and gas sectors. He served as Sales Director for Latin America at Drew Marine and began his career at AQUATEC, as a Service Engineer and Grace Dearborn. He was also an Account Executive at Drew Marine. With extensive experience in the financial, operational and HSE areas, he has given several lectures and seminars in the area of ​​corrosion and water treatment in marine systems.

Nielly Fidalgo

Operations Manager

Production Engineer, holding a postgraduate degree in Industrial Maintenance Management and an MBA in Project Management, with 18 years of experience. A specialist in maritime operations management and complex projects, she has a solid technical background and extensive experience leading multidisciplinary teams. Her proven track record includes fleet maintenance, dry-docking projects, conversions, and process optimization, along with expertise in ISO certification audits and integrated management systems.

Throughout her career, she has held various technical leadership positions, with expertise in managing vessels such as chemical tankers, oil tankers, bulk carriers, support platforms, and cargo ships. Her work spans process optimization, cost reduction, and the development of innovative solutions for management systems, consistently focusing on operational excellence, compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and quality assurance.

Marcio Giannini

Research, Development, and Innovation Manager

PhD researcher in the fields of energy and sustainability, with over 25 years of experience in research, development, and innovation. He has contributed to esteemed institutions such as the Electric Energy Research Center (ELETROBRAS CEPEL), the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV-RJ), and the Funding Authority for Studies and Projects (FINEP). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from UFRJ, in addition to a Master’s and PhD in Energy and Environmental Planning from COPPE/UFRJ. Over the course of his career, he served as a visiting researcher at the University of California, Berkeley (USA) in 2015 and at the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2022. He is currently the Manager of Research, Development, and Innovation at BioRen and a professor in the Energy and Environment Graduate Program at COPPE/UFRJ (MBEN COPPE). He is also an active speaker on topics of innovation and sustainability, having made significant contributions to numerous multidisciplinary projects centered on innovation, energy, and sustainability. Furthermore, the researcher possesses an extensive academic portfolio, with over 100 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and papers presented at both national and international conferences. His career reflects a steadfast commitment to research that aims to provide sustainable solutions to contemporary corporate challenges.

João Ferrer

Project Manager

Throughout his entire professional life, João has worked as a manager or leader of maritime projects, first in Brazil and then in different countries around the world. All of them involved ships, whether under construction, conversion or operation, working for both the private sector and the government.

Among many projects, his highlights include 22 years as a logistics agent for the United States Navy in Brazil, ship conversion projects in Singapore, Poland, and Brazil, ship/hotel operations for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the 4th Arab-African Summit in Equatorial Guinea, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Doha, Qatar.

João has a technical background in Engineering but in the last ten years he has focused his personal development in the areas of conflict mediation, non-violent communication, and developing processes to create dialogue between team members in the workplace.

Angie Castañeda

Automation Systems Analyst

Graduated in Mechatronics from the Nueva Granada Military University (UMNG) in Colombia, in 2015, with a Master’s degree also in Mechatronics and from the same University, in 2018. Between 2015 and 2019 she was a Junior Researcher at Colciencias (Colombia), with developments in 5 research projects and several scientific publications, as well as participation in national and international conferences. From 2018 to 2020 she was a university professor in the areas of analog and digital electronics, static and dynamic mechanics, mathematical modeling and signals and processing. She is currently pursuing a PhD degree at UFRJ with a focus on signal processing and virtual environmental programming.

⁠Fernanda Siviero

Marine Biologist

Fernanda is a biologist with extensive academic and professional experience, she holds a PhD in Marine Biology from UFF and a Master’s degree from UFRJ. She has solid knowledge in sampling design and biological data analysis, having worked between 2007 and 2017 at IEAPM, where she worked in research and project management within several areas of marine biology. She has completed her postdoctoral studies at PUCC (2018) and IEAPM (2016), and has published 3 book chapters. Between 2018 and 2021, she worked as coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences at UNILAGOS, contributing to the training of new biologists.

Fredy Gutierrez

Automation and Development Engineer

Mechatronic Engineer with a MSc in Mechanical Engineering from UFRJ/COPPE/COPPEAD, focusing on robotics, design, and manufacturing. In addition, he received the title of MBA Bi Master in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from PUC-Rio. He has extensive experience in engineering applied to research and technological development. Between 2014 and 2016, he worked as a Researcher in Robotics at UFRJ and COPPE. In 2017, he worked on the development of robotic technology aimed at geological research at Gmas, in Colombia. From 2017 to 2023, he played the role of Technical Specialist in the experimental physics laboratories at PUC-Rio.

Our History

BioRen technology was developed in 2013 and has since been successfully used on dozens of vessels and submerged maritime structures.

The name BioRen expresses the purpose of this technology: BIO means life in Greek while REN means purity in Norwegian.

BioRen is controlled by Lorinvest, a Norwegian asset management company, and is inspired by the principles of the Lorentzen Group, a company founded in 1953 and strongly committed to sustainability.
